The City Council – Faria House Renovation - History Museum - Old Survey

On Tuesday June 2 the City Council heard a presentation on the status of the Pinole History Museum. Councilmember Salimi requested information on possible funding sources (estimated renovation costs are $1.5M).


On Tuesday June 16 the City Council created the Faria House ad-hoc committee. 


Two members of the Council were appointed to sit on that committee, Pete Murray (term expires 2020) and Anthony Tave (term expires 2022).
They are to report their findings on November 17, 2020.


The specific responsibility of the Ad-Hoc committee is to assess and provide recommendations to the full Council on options to fund the City’s Share of the cost to renovate and maintain the Faria House building and site. The costs have been estimated to be approximately $1.5 Million.

The July 7 City Council Agenda includes agenda Item 9B: Potential Funding Sources for the Faria House Renovation

Options include:

  1. Using Existing Unrestricted Financial Assets from the General Fund (GF

  2. Use of the 1.5 Million from the Sale of the Pinole Assisted Living Community (PALC)

  3. Use of the $500,000 from PALC

  4. Proceeds from the Sale of Redevelopment Successor Agency Property

  5. Obtaining New Financial Assets (Grants)

  6. Private Financing (City to borrow $1,000,000)

  7. Reduced Planning Expenditures, Reducing Budgeted Expenditures from the GF

  8. Using Property Tax from Developed RDA (Redevelopment Agency) Properties

The Council voted to move forward with the idea of renovating this city-owned property for use as a Pinole History Museum. Please note that Faria House property is city-owned and there are no executed or legally binding agreements with the initiating entity, the Pinole Historical Society, or with the affiliated entity, the History Museum to finance this project in any amount.


The Faria House ad-hoc committee’s task is to assess and provide recommendations to the full city council on options to fund the city’s share of the cost to renovate the Faria house building and site.

The $1.5 Million cost estimate for renovation of the Faria property was provided by the City. The History Museum Survey is still open.
