Devin Murphy

for Pinole City Council 2020

I am proud to serve as a Planning Commissioner for the city of Pinole. A second-generation Pinolean, I am also a small business owner and the founder of Visit Pinole, a campaign I built to support economic growth, community engagement, and the vitality of small businesses in our town.

I am running for Council to:

  • Keep our families & children safe by prioritizing crucial public safety funding

  • Preserve our parks, trails, and public spaces, including the Pinole Senior Center

  • Prioritize small business and economic growth in our town, especially in Old Town Pinole

I am serious about protecting our town’s future, especially in the midst of the tragic COVID-19 pandemic. We must stay on track to ensure future generations of Pinoleans will continue to feel pride in the Pinole we all know and love -- and its rich history. I am ready to continue the work of building a strong town and involving our community members in the council’s decision-making process.

I will uphold principles of fiscal transparency, openness, and integrity. I have the unwavering commitment to protect our town, the confidence to stand for the working families and vulnerable elderly residents, and the courage to make tough decisions.

I humbly ask for your vote for Pinole City Council.

for Pinole City Treasurer 2020

I am running for Pinole City Treasurer because I think the public should be better informed about the city’s finances. The city has a great deal of information available, but it’s not always accessible to the public. I have years of experience analyzing the city’s submitted data and asking questions based on that information at city council meetings, so everyone can be better informed.

In addition to my experience with the city’s data in general and budgets specifically, I have worked in a number of accounting roles. I have worked in large corporations, small family operations, and non-profits. My duties have ranged from moving 50 lb bags of currency, ensuring the proper delivery of checks to the appropriate parties, reconciling hundreds of receipts annually, to turning large quantities of unprocessed data into categorized, machine and human understandable values.

Finally, I would be a good treasurer because I’m transparent, detail-oriented and a critical thinker. But most importantly, I can use those skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise matter.

I look forward to serving as your eyes on Pinole’s finances, and respectfully ask for your vote. Thank you."

Jamela Smith-Folds

for West Contra Costa Unified School Board, Ward 1

A message from Jamela,

I have the spirit of service. I am running for school board trustee in ward 1 to serve you and your family. Ward 1 includes Hercules, Pinole, and a part of Richmond. I know what teachers, students, and parents need to have a successful school experience. It is my commitment and dedication to the desired outcome of success that makes me the best choice for school board trustee. Equity, sustainability and building capacity in policies and programs that have embedded measurements for growth are the changes I will bring to the school board.

From Jamela the Teacher,
I am a graduate of Auburn University with a double major in English and History and a credential to teach. I have been in the field of education for over 15 years. I began my teaching career in 2000. I taught at Auburn High School in Auburn, Alabama. Teaching in Alabama reinforced that teaching is a community job. My first teaching job in California was at Gompers Continuation High School in Richmond, California. I credit Gompers with teaching me that delivering information is the least that a teacher does. A teacher is charged and obligated to create and maintain trusting relationships with parents and students. Recently, I taught at Hercules High School as the Leadership Teacher and Activity Director. As a veteran teacher, I understand that the voice of the teacher, student, and parent must be at the decision making table. Making policy without these voices, bears no fruit. I am the voice for all.
